neg (I-III)
Installation / studio views
2018

The installed objects neg (I-III) confront the viewer with auto-directed negations as an expression of internalized restrictions. The painted metal objects, reminiscent of information or advertising boards, interrupt the space as black barriers, but - in contrast to public space - demand a close and intimate encounter.

The use of annihilating (signal) black in matte and glossy is characteristic of the work. As one approaches, shiny words and phrases appear, implying entrenched forms of self- imposed prohibitions as an effect of neoliberal social structures. The influence and incarnation of dos and don'ts create an inner voiceless language, an aesthetic of self- discipline and -censorship.
