“[…] the permeated, the permeating.”

The works of Miriam Döring (she/her, they/them, born 1993 in Neuss, lives and works in Berlin) emerge from and witness a physical tension, agency, and urgency. Her own bodily perceptions are the motivation and re-source for the questions she poses in her artistic practice, which then unfold within her research into scars of capitalist historiography. Here, she addresses and challenges both scientific-medical and mythical narratives about the body, its (dis)functions and its relationship to its environment. By re-formulating narratives from the perspective of a historically marginalised (female-queer) subject, Miriam Döring demands to understand vulnerability and symptoms as moments of empowerment. In doing so, she negotiates the permeability of bodies, their responsiveness towards their immediate and structural surroundings, and speculates on bodies’ potential of world-sensing, -making, and being-intertwined.
Miriam Döring’s practice includes sculpture, installation, drawing, sound and video-/performance. Through the use of text and a somatic approach she situates her works in specific spatial and temporal contexts. This written as well as her material language move between the poetic and the sensitive, while at the same time bearing honest witness to the violent inscriptions of our present.
